Donald Trump’s unprecedented second state visit has raised numerous talking points in the past 24 hours as he – accompanied by wife Melania – were welcomed to Windsor Castle by King Charles and Queen Camilla. The foursome, along with Prince William and Kate Middleton, enjoyed a state banquet among 160 guests in the castle’s St George’s Hall[1].

While the king and president[2] been grabbing headlines, it was the attire of their spouses that caused a stir on social media. The Queen donned a cobalt blue Fiona Clare gown with a sapphire tiara for the meal, while the First Lady opted for a yellow Carolina Herrera strapless dress complete with a pink belt[3].

As the two stood side-by-side,, those watching live on television couldn’t help but point out they were sporting the colours of the Ukrainian – with some suggesting it was a subtle show of support for the war-torn nation.

On X, one person noted: “I think the colour may have been requested/coordinated (Ukraine blue on Camilla and yellow on Melania). Style choice could have been better.”

A second penned: “Thank you Queen Camilla and FLOTUS Melanie Trump for keeping Ukraine in our minds.”

A third individual theorised: “What a great statement of support from our Queen Camilla and FLOTUS for the people of Ukraine, especially all children at risk of Russian bombing drones… blue and yellow dresses together.”

Similarly, a fourth X user claimed: “Love the colour choices by Queen Consort Camilla and First Lady Melania. Clearing communicating they support Ukraine. And, yes, Melania’s people would have checked with Camilla’s people what colour she was wearing.”

Even the Kyiv Post acknowledged: “Official photo from King Charles’s meeting with Donald Trump. Queen Camilla and Melania Trump were dressed in yellow and blue, the national colours of Ukraine.”

During the King’s speech, he emphasised the alliance between the US and UK, and its importance in supporting Ukraine.

“Our countries have the closest defence, security and intelligence relationship ever known,” he said. “In two world wars, we fought together to defeat the forces of tyranny. Today, as tyranny once again threatens Europe, we and our allies stand together in support of Ukraine, to deter aggression and secure peace.

“And our Aukus submarine partnership, with Australia, sets the benchmark for innovative and vital collaboration.”

Trump later described[4] the bond between the US and the UK as “priceless and eternal” as he hailed: “We’re joined by history and faith, by love and language and by transcendent ties of culture, tradition, ancestry and destiny.”

The president continued: “We’re like two notes in one chord or two verses of the same poem, each beautiful on its own, but really meant to be played together. The bond of kinship and identity between America and the United Kingdom is priceless and eternal.

“It’s irreplaceable and unbreakable and we are, as a country, as you know, doing unbelievably well. We had a very sick country one year ago, and today, I believe we’re the hottest country anywhere in the world.”
