Xiaomi has officially confirmed the launch of its 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max later this month in China. Interestingly, the company is skipping the number 16 to align its naming strategy more closely with Apple.
The spotlight is now on the 17 Pro Max. Xiaomi[1] itself revealed the phone’s rear design, including the much-rumored secondary display. The look matches earlier leaks, confirming previous reports. The image briefly appeared on Xiaomi’s official Weibo account before being removed, raising questions about whether it was an accident or a deliberate teaser.
All three models are expected to run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5[2], a chip that was recently confirmed after weeks of speculation. The Xiaomi 17 and 17 Pro are tipped to share the same size, though the Pro variant should feature improved cameras and possibly a better display. Meanwhile, the 17 Pro Max is designed to be a larger version of the Pro, following Apple’s[3] “Max” approach.
Xiaomi’s strategy appears clear. By boosting naming, teasing designs, and adopting Apple’s product playbook, it is positioning the 17 lineup as its strongest flagship release yet.
