The Punjab government has officially opened applications for its first-ever E-Taxi Scheme, a key part of the province’s Transport Vision 2030 aimed at promoting eco-friendly travel. Citizens can now apply online at e-taxi.punjab.gov.pk until October 5, 2025.
In the first phase, 1,100 electric taxis will be distributed to eligible applicants. Officials say the scheme will not only reduce air pollution and fuel costs but also generate jobs and modernize Punjab’s urban transport system.
This initiative follows the provincial government’s financing arrangement for electric vehicles. Under the approved plan, banks will provide loans of up to Rs. 6.5 million for EV purchases. Buyers will pay a subsidized down payment, while the government covers the loan’s interest cost. For EVs priced between Rs. 4 million and Rs. 10 million, the Punjab government will contribute Rs. 585,000 toward the down payment, with the rest financed through partner banks.
