The federal government has set March 23, 2026 as the launch date for the new Islamabad–Rawalpindi[1] high-speed rail link, aimed at cutting travel time, easing congestion, and offering affordable commuting between the twin cities. The service will connect Margalla Railway Station (Islamabad) to Saddar Railway Station (Rawalpindi), covering the distance in just 20 minutes.
Residents of the twin cities face daily traffic jams and long commutes. The new project, developed by Pakistan Railways and the Capital Development Authority (CDA), seeks to modernize urban transport and improve connectivity with feeder bus services.
