Snapchat is rolling out two major updates designed to meet long-standing user requests. The most notable is Infinite Retention, a feature that lets users keep chat history permanently instead of watching conversations disappear.
The company explained that many Snapchatters wanted the option to save chats forever and build streaks with their favorite groups. Snapchat first tested Infinite Retention in 2024, but it is now becoming widely available.
Previously, users could save messages by tapping them inside a chat. This new option makes things easier by applying a setting to entire conversations. Once enabled, the other person will be notified and can choose to switch it off. For example, you could keep chats permanent with close friends but leave messages temporary with acquaintances.
Alongside this, Snapchat is introducing Group Streaks, allowing multiple friends to contribute to one collective streak. Unlike individual Streaks, which require sending a photo or video Snap daily to one friend, Group Streaks are more forgiving since several people can participate.
If a Group Streak breaks, Snapchat will also give users up to one week to restore it.
