Apple’s latest iPhone 17 lineup is seeing stronger pre-order momentum than last year’s iPhone 16 series[1], according to analyst reports. Early signs suggest higher demand and faster shipping delays, though questions remain around the newly introduced iPhone Air.
Reports indicate that demand for the iPhone 17[2], 17 Pro[3], and 17 Pro Max[4] has surpassed last year’s models. Production for the third quarter is up by about 25 percent compared to the iPhone 16 series. Pre-orders are also tracking stronger across all three main variants.
The iPhone 17 Pro Max is proving to be the star of the lineup. Its production volume is about 60 percent higher than the iPhone 16 Pro Max, signaling clear demand for Apple’s largest flagship device.
The picture looks different for the iPhone Air[5]. It is the only model readily available at launch, which might suggest weaker demand than the iPhone 16 Plus. However, analyst reports highlight that production for the iPhone Air is roughly three times higher than the 16 Plus, making direct comparisons misleading.
Reports also noted that the Air’s unique position in the lineup lacks a clear historical reference point. This makes its early performance harder to evaluate. While the iPhone Air “doesn’t look compelling on paper,” reports suggest that in-store hands-on experience could help the device gain traction with customers.
Apple’s production strategy suggests confidence in the new lineup. Still, the iPhone Air’s long-term success will depend on how consumers respond once they interact with the device beyond spec sheets.
