The Punjab government has sanctioned a major initiative to upgrade afternoon schools, approving a Rs470 million project that will enhance 200 institutions from primary to higher levels of education.

According to official details, 64 schools have been included under the pilot phase, while 136 more afternoon schools will be upgraded in this round of the project. The provincial finance department has already released Rs100 million as the first installment to begin work.

The upgrade program will run from April 1, 2025, to June 30, 2027. District education authorities have been instructed to submit detailed reports on the use of funds to maintain transparency and accountability throughout the process.

To ensure smooth implementation, the Punjab government has also issued guidelines for the recruitment of teachers and the timely payment of their salaries. Officials noted that these measures will support the sustainability of the project and strengthen the education system in the province.
