Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved the Islamabad–Rawalpindi rail car project, calling it a major public welfare initiative to ease travel for residents of the twin cities. The decision was announced during the groundbreaking ceremony of the T-Chowk Flyover on Friday.

The premier instructed Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi to immediately begin work on the new service, noting that the required railway track is already in place. This will allow for a faster launch, making it easier for commuters and tourists to move between the cities without relying solely on road transport.

Shehbaz Sharif assured full federal government backing for the project, highlighting its importance in reducing traffic pressure and improving connectivity. Alongside this announcement, the PM also inaugurated the Rs. 1.4 billion T-Chowk Flyover at the Islamabad Expressway and G.T. Road intersection. The flyover, expected to be completed in 150 days, will significantly improve traffic flow for residents of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and nearby areas.

With both initiatives, the government aims to provide sustainable transport solutions and address growing traffic challenges in the region.
