Smartphone production reached 300 million units in the second quarter of 2025, according to TrendForce[1]. This marked a 4% increase from the first quarter and a 4.8% rise from the same period last year, signaling recovery after months of sluggish output caused by high inventory levels.

A subsidy program in China targeting mid-range and entry-level devices helped manufacturers clear excess stock. The initiative supported domestic brands and contributed to stronger production numbers in the quarter.

Samsung remained the world’s leading smartphone producer with 58 million units, though its output fell 5% from the previous quarter following a post-flagship launch slowdown. Apple followed with 46 million iPhones, down 9% from Q1 but up 4% year-on-year, supported by steady demand for the iPhone 16e and deep price cuts in China earlier this year.

Xiaomi ranked third with 42 million units, boosted by the subsidy program and expanding sales in South America and Africa. Oppo, including OnePlus[2] and Realme, produced 37 million units, a 35% rebound after a weak first quarter.

Transsion, which sells under the Tecno, Infinix, and itel brands, recorded a 33% increase quarter-on-quarter with 27 million units. Vivo, including its iQOO sub-brand, raised production by 8% to 26 million units.
