Sam Dean, CEO of the Scott Family Amazeum[1] in Bentonville, has been elected to a two-year term as chair-elect on the board of directors for the Association of Science and Technology Centers[2] (ASTC). The term started Sept. 8.
Dean previously served as a member at large on the ASTC Executive Committee, according to the Thursday (Sept. 11) announcement.
The ASTC board provides leadership to ASTC, a nonprofit membership society that represents organizations focused on public engagement with science. Members include nearly 600 science and technology centers and museums and allied organizations in more than 40 countries. The vision of ASTC and its members is to increase people’s understanding of and engagement with science and technology.
“I believe science centers and museums are some of the most joyful places on earth,” Dean said. “They remind us that curiosity is contagious and creativity is abundant. Serving as chair-elect of the ASTC board is a chance to celebrate and support the amazing work of this global community of dreamers, doers and wonder-makers.”
Dean is among five officers on the ASTC board, including chair Erin Graham, president and CEO of Oregon Museum of Science and Industry in Portland, Ore. Nine directors were also elected or reelected to the board this year.
“ASTC is grateful for the incredible leadership of Sam Dean,” said Christofer Nelson, ASTC’s president and CEO. “Our officers and members of the board of directors – each distinguished leader – bring tremendous insight and important perspectives on our field as we work together to increase understanding of an engagement with science and technology among all people.”
