Overview

Jeffrey Epstein’s 50th Birthday Book and Donald Trump’s “Wonderful Secret” Drawing refer to a late 2025 controversy surrounding the leak of drawings allegedly made for a scrapbook commemorating Jeffrey Epstein’s[1] 50th birthday in 2003, which included a drawing, allegedly from U.S.[2] President Donald Trump[3], that showed the outline of a female body. The text within the doodle read, “We have certain things in common, Jeffrey,” “Enigmas never age, have you noticed that?” and “may every day be another wonderful secret.” The drawing was originally reported on by the Wall Street Journal in July 2025. In September 2025, the images were released to the public by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, which acquired the birthday book. Trump’s alleged doodle added to the public’s speculation that he was involved in Epstein’s alleged sex trafficking ring of underage women. In turn, viral posts, memes[4] and discourse[5] about the President and Epstein surfaced across social media.

Background

On July 17th, 2025, the Wall Street Journal released an exclusive report about obtaining Jeffrey Epstein’s alleged 2003 50th birthday album, which compiled drawings and letters from his friends for the occasion. Among the documents was a letter allegedly written by Donald Trump.

According to the report, it showed: “The outline of a naked woman, which appears to be hand-drawn with a heavy marker. A pair of small arcs denotes the woman’s breasts, and the future president’s signature is a squiggly ‘Donald’ below her waist, mimicking pubic hair.”

Words were written within the outline, including among them, “Happy Birthday — and may every day be another wonderful secret.”

The Wall Street Journal spoke with President Trump about the letter and included in the report that he denied writing the letter and drawing the picture. He was quoted as saying, “This is not me. This is a fake thing. It’s a fake Wall Street Journal story.”

On July 17th, President Trump shared a post on Truth Social[6] in which he further denied the Wall Street Journal’s claim. “The Wall Street Journal printed a FAKE letter, supposedly to Epstein. These are not my words, not the way I talk. Also, I don’t draw pictures,” he wrote. The post gained over 41,200 likes in two months.

On July 18th, 2025, Trump sued the Wall Street Journal and its owners, including Rupert Murdoch, over the report, seeking $10 billion, according to outlets like Reuters.

On September 8th, 2025, the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform received a copy of Epstein’s alleged 2003 birthday book from Epstein’s estate, following a subpoena filed by Chairman James Comer. The House Committee released the files to the public in a Dropbox link.

On that day, the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Democrats shared a tweet on the X account @OversightDems, including the alleged letter from Donald Trump to Epstein in the birthday book. The tweet received over 19.6 million views and 36,000 likes in a day.

Voice Over:

There must be more to life than having everything.

Donald

Yes, there is, but I won’t tell you what it is.

Jeffrey

Nor will I, since I also know what it is.

Donald

We have certain things in common, Jeffrey.

Jeffrey

Yes, we do, come to think of it.

Donald

Enigmas never age, have you noticed that?

Jeffrey

As a matter of fact, it was clear to me the last time I saw you.

Donald

A pal is a wonderful thing. Happy Birthday —
and may every day be another wonderful secret.

The Wall Street Journal then published an article about the document’s release on September 8th.

The files in the Dropbox released by the House Committee on Oversight were looked through by other major publications on that day.

For instance, the Guardian led its article with a drawing from the birthday book document, showing Epstein in 1983 handing balloons to girls and in 2003 being massaged by young women. The phrase “What a great country!” is written beneath “2003.” Notably, Epstein’s private jet, the “Lolita Express,” is shown in the top-left. Epstein’s initials are also tattooed on one of the women’s rears.

The Wall Street Journal, in its September 8th, 2025 report, highlighted a different passage in the birthday book, which read, “Jeffrey showing early talents with money + women sells ‘fully depreciated’ [woman’s name] to Donald Trump for $22,500.” The photograph showed Epstein with a large check. The section was a part of a letter allegedly written by businessman and Mar-a-Lago member Joel Pashcow.
