Apple unveiled the iPhone 17 series at its September 2025 event, introducing notable updates across the lineup. While the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max bring premium features, the spotlight also fell on the iPhone 17 and the all-new iPhone Air, which replaces the Plus series with a slimmer design. Both devices come with brighter displays, improved performance, and upgraded camera systems.
We will cover the vanilla iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air in this article, while the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max will be covered separately.
Design and Display
The iPhone 17 debuts a 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion technology and adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz, bringing the Always-On display to non-Pro models for the first time. Protected by Ceramic Shield 2, the screen claims three times better scratch resistance and improved glare reduction, with a peak brightness of 3,000 nits for outdoor use. The iPhone 17 will be available in Lavender, Mist Blue, Sage, White, and Black, as shown below.
The iPhone Air, at just 5.6mm thick, is Apple’s thinnest iPhone to date. It features a 6.5-inch LTPO Super Retina OLED display with 120Hz ProMotion and Ceramic Shield 2, also reaching 3,000 nits of brightness. The iPhone Air comes in Space Black, Cloud White, Light Gold, and Sky Blue.
Internals and Software
The iPhone 17 is powered by the A19 chip, a 3nm processor with a six-core CPU and five-core GPU, supported by the Apple[1] N1 chip for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread connectivity. It runs on iOS 26 with full support for Apple Intelligence.
The iPhone Air uses the A19 Pro chip, delivering performance levels claimed to be comparable to the MacBook Pro. It also includes the C1X modem, offering faster speeds and improved energy efficiency, alongside the N1 chip for advanced wireless performance.
Cameras
For the first time in a non-Pro model, the iPhone 17 introduces dual 48MP rear cameras. The main sensor supports 2x optical zoom, while the ultrawide lens adds macro capability. iOS 26 introduces a new Bright style for more vibrant images and enhanced skin tones.
The iPhone Air features a single 48MP rear camera, due to its slim profile, paired with an 18MP front camera that includes Center Stage, which keeps the subject centered in the frame even if they’re moving around.
Battery and Pricing
The iPhone 17 delivers up to 30 hours of video playback and can charge to 50% in 20 minutes using Apple’s new 40W Dynamic Power Adapter. It starts at $799 for the 256GB model.
The iPhone Air offers all-day battery life with an optional MagSafe battery pack that extends playback to 40 hours. Pricing begins at $999 for the 256GB variant. It should not be long before both these phones become available in Pakistan.
