The Apple iPhone 17 series[1] is now official, and all four models are headed for an aggressive global rollout. Pre-orders kick off September 12 across the first wave of 63 markets, including the US, UK, China, Germany, France, India, South Korea, Canada, and Australia. Deliveries begin a week later on September 19, while another 22 countries join in on September 26.
The standard iPhone 17[2] is shaping up to be one of the more notable upgrades in years. Apple has finally given the base model the same display technology as its Pro siblings, complete with ProRes, a 120 Hz refresh rate, always-on functionality, and reduced reflectivity.
The storage story has shifted, too: the iPhone 17 now starts at 256GB, bringing it in line with the Pro and the new Air. Pricing remains consistent across major markets like the US, UK, Germany, and China, even with the doubled storage, though India and Japan see higher tags.
The iPhone 17 Pro[3] makes the same jump to 256GB as the starting point, but unlike the vanilla model, it comes with a price increase. Buyers will pay $100/€100/£100 more than the outgoing generation, though the bump disappears when you account for the additional storage.
For the iPhone 17 Pro Max[4], storage already started at 256GB, so nothing changes there. Pricing holds steady in most of Apple’s key regions.
Apple also used the event to retire the “Plus” branding. The iPhone 16 Plus is gone, replaced by the new iPhone Air[5]. This is more than just rebranding, though.
The Air feels more premium, bringing ProMotion, a refined design, and a Pro-level chipset to the table. That comes with a $100/€100/£100 increase, but Apple offsets the jump by doubling base storage to 256 GB.
