Apple has officially launched the iPhone 17 Pro series, introducing its most significant design and performance changes in years. Moving away from titanium, Apple has gone back to an aluminum unibody construction, paired with upgraded displays, a redesigned camera system, and bigger batteries.
The Pro models also feature Apple’s most powerful chip to date, the A19 Pro, alongside professional-grade photography and video tools.
Design and Display
The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are built with Series 7000 aluminum unibody frames, anodized on the exterior for durability and a refined look. They are offered in silver, deep blue, and cosmic orange. Both devices include Ceramic Shield glass on the front and back, with the upgraded Ceramic Shield 2 on the display. Apple claims it is three times more scratch-resistant and four times more resistant to cracks.
The iPhone 17 Pro comes with a 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR display, while the Pro Max carries a larger 6.9-inch panel. Both feature ProMotion 120Hz adaptive refresh rates, an Always-On display, and 3,000 nits peak brightness. A seven-layer anti-reflective coating further improves outdoor visibility.
Internals and Software
Both Pro models are powered by the A19 Pro chip, built on a 3nm process. The chip includes a six-core CPU with two performance and four efficiency cores, a six-core GPU with hardware-accelerated Ray Tracing, and a 16-core Neural Engine designed to enhance Apple[1] Intelligence features.
Apple claims that this chip is just as powerful as the MacBook Pros.
For the first time, the Pro lineup incorporates a vapor chamber cooling system to deliver 40% better sustained performance compared to the previous generation. Networking is handled by Apple’s N1 chip, which supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread. The iPhone 17 Pro series launches with iOS 26, featuring the new Liquid Glass design language.
Cameras
The Pro models feature a completely reworked 48MP telephoto camera with a 100mm f/2.8 lens, tetraprism optical design, and sensor-shift stabilization. It delivers 4x optical zoom and up to 8x or 200mm digital zoom thanks to its high-resolution sensor.
Alongside the telephoto, both models include a 48MP wide camera and a 48MP ultrawide camera. The front introduces an 18MP square Center Stage camera, which adjusts its field of view automatically for group selfies and keeps subjects centered during video calls.
Video capabilities have also expanded, with support for ProRes RAW, Log 2, genlock, and integration with Final Cut Camera 2.0 and Blackmagic Camera, in addition to existing support for Dolby Vision HDR and 4K at 120fps.
Battery and Pricing
Apple has not disclosed the exact capacities but confirmed the Pro models include larger batteries than their predecessors. The company claims the iPhone 17 Pro lineup offers up to 39 hours of video playback, two hours more than before. In selected markets, including the US, Canada, Japan, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, Apple will ship eSIM-only versions, which are said to include slightly bigger batteries.
The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max start with 256GB of storage, expanding to 512GB and 1TB, while the Pro Max also offers a 2TB option. The iPhone 17 Pro is priced at $1,099 for 256GB, $1,299 for 512GB, and $1,499 for 1TB. The iPhone 17 Pro Max begins at $1,199 for 256GB, $1,399 for 512GB, $1,599 for 1TB, and $1,999 for 2TB.
These iPhones should become available in Pakistan soon.
