Whether you’re capturing landscape photography in remote locations, powering essential gear during weekend camping trips, or ensuring your home office carries on ticking during unexpected outages, reliable portable power has become indispensable for modern tech users.
The challenge, though, is finding a solution that combines convenient portability with the performance and longevity that demanding users require.
Enter Jackery’s new portable power station, the Explorer 500 v2[1]. Launched on 5th September at IFA 2025, it’s the upgraded version of the iconic Explorer 500 – one of Jackery’s first power stations to enter the European market.
The new 500 v2 model represents a comprehensive reimagining of what portable power technology can achieve, delivering a 512Wh capacity, and a 500W rated output with 1,000W peak output – all while incorporating the compact design philosophy seen across Jackery’s v2 series.
This isn’t an incremental update either. The Explorer 500 v2 integrates a durable LiFePO₄ battery with 6,000 charge cycles, ultra-fast charging capabilities, and advanced ceramic membrane technology that enables reliable operation in extreme conditions from -20°C to 45°C.
There’s plenty more to it than that, too. Here’s how it can revolutionise your power needs, wherever you are.
A 6,000-cycle lifespan
The Explorer 500 v2 becomes the first power station in its class to feature a LiFePO₄ battery with 6,000 charge cycles to 70% capacity, while most others typically offer around 4,000 cycles.
This upgraded battery incorporates innovative multi-scale micro-nano structured ceramic membrane technology, combining asymmetric 3D through-pores with heat-resistant coatings and built-in safety materials.
The advanced design enhances ion transport at low temperatures down to -20°C, improves durability, and boosts safety through multiple protection mechanisms. Zirconia nanoparticles prevent internal short circuits and thermal runaway, while phase-change microcapsules automatically seal pores at high temperatures (150°C), stopping heat transfer for enhanced protection.
The practical implications are considerable – over 6,000 charge cycles support up to 30 years of reliable use, while extreme temperature resilience ensures consistent performance in harsh climates from -20°C to 45°C.
This superior safety and stability make the Explorer 500 v2 suitable for demanding outdoor adventures and critical home backup scenarios, with plenty of peace of mind thrown in for good measure.
Ultra-fast charging
Charging performance receives a substantial upgrade in the Explorer 500 v2 as well. The unit can be fully charged in 80 minutes via AC power, with 0-80% charging completed in just 52 minutes.
Combined AC and DC hybrid charging reduces full charging time to 60 minutes, while solar panel charging through the compatible SolarSaga 100W panel takes 200 minutes. These specs represent approximately 7.5 times faster charging than the original Explorer 500. Not too shabby.
Built with Jackery’s exclusive ultra-low self-discharge technology, the Explorer 500 v2 also maintains over 95% of its charge when fully charged and stored, with power loss remaining under 5% after six months. This ensures the unit remains ready when needed, addressing the common frustration of finding there’s no power left when you need it the most.
The versatile port configuration includes one USB-A port, two USB-C ports (PD 100W and 30W), and two AC outlets, enabling simultaneous charging of multiple devices across different power requirements. This setup covers power needs for overnight camping, road trips, landscape photography, and short-term home office backup when paired with the Jackery SolarSaga 100W solar panel.
Acoustic performance ensures ultra-quiet operation too, with charging noise remaining below 28dB at 200W load for device charging, and below 36dB when charging the battery via mains power. This enables peaceful operation during nighttime camping, or power outages without disturbing sleep.
Compact engineering
Despite its impressive capabilities, the Explorer 500 v2 is comfortably portable. Physical design optimisation delivers impressive space efficiency through Tesla-inspired CTB (Cell-to-Body) tech.
The Explorer 500 v2 measures 31 × 20.5 × 15.6 cm and weighs 5.7kg, making it 28.9% smaller than the previous model E500. Jackery positions this as the lightest and most compact 500Wh power station in its class.
The CTB integration also contributes to enhanced durability and portability, while a foldable handle provides effortless carrying and easy storage for mobile applications.
This combination of reduced size and improved structural integrity addresses the traditional trade-off between portability and robustness in portable power solutions.
Comprehensive AI-powered protection
The Explorer 500 v2 incorporates seamless backup functionality with UPS switching in 10 milliseconds or less, ensuring uninterrupted power for essential devices, including fridges, CPAP machines, computers, and NAS storage during outages.
Built-in surge protection also handles up to 3,000V, delivering up to 1,000 joules of surge energy protection against lightning strikes and voltage fluctuations from multi-device usage.
AI-powered ChargeShield 2.0™ technology provides comprehensive safety monitoring through 62 protection mechanisms, including 12-layer BMS algorithms and four levels of physical protection. This system delivers full-spectrum safety for worry-free charging across all operating conditions.
The fire-resistant and shockproof exterior design meets UL94V-0 fireproof standard as well, making the unit reliable for outdoor exploration. All-weather performance enables dependable charging and discharging from -20°C to 45°C, ensuring consistent operation in freezing cold or extreme heat conditions.
Availability and pricing
The Explorer 500 v2 positions itself as a portable power solution for outdoor adventures and home backup scenarios, combining advanced battery technology with practical design considerations for tech users requiring reliable power in demanding situations.
