The iPhone 17[1] series is now on the verge of launching, with the big day set for September 9. That means it’s time to start thinking about which model – if any – you want, but almost as important as choosing between the iPhone 17, the iPhone 17 Air, the iPhone 17 Pro, and the iPhone 17 Pro Max, is deciding which color you want.
Of course, we won’t know for sure which colors are on offer until Apple[2] unveils these phones, but between the rumors and some educated guesses, I’ve predicted which shades we might see for all four models.
So read on below for a look at the colors you’ll likely have to choose from when the iPhone 17 series lands.
iPhone 17 color predictions
One of the earliest iPhone 17 color tips suggested that the phone could be sold in either purple or green[3], and it’s now looking like green won out, as a newer leak from the same source[4] lists that color, along with black, white, pink, and blue, all of which you can see in the image of dummy units above.
That said, it’s possible that both purple and green will be used, as a source speaking to MacWorld[5] has said as much, adding that the other iPhone 17 shades will apparently be black, white, steel gray, and light blue.
That latter list contains six shades though, and Apple usually only offers five with the base iPhone models, so for now I’d guess that the five-color list of black, white, pink, blue, and green is more likely.
For reference, the iPhone 16[6] is available in black, white, pink, teal (a bluey green) and ultramarine (blue), so there could be quite a lot of overlap with last year’s shades.
iPhone 17 Air color predictions
Usually we only get two sets of colors for numbered iPhones – one set for the base model and the Plus, and another for the two Pro models, but this year there could be three sets of colors, as leaks suggest the iPhone 17 Air will have its own selection.
There’s a fair bit of consensus on what those shades will be too, with three sources all pointing to black[7] and either blue[8] or light blue shades[9].
Two of those sources additionally mention white, while one suggests silver instead, and two highlight light gold, with one saying yellow. But silver and white could appear similar, as could light gold and yellow, so they seem to all basically be in agreement.
As such, I think it’s very likely we’ll get black, blue or light blue, white or silver, and gold or yellow. You can also see how these colors might look in the leaked images above.
iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max color predictions
Finally there’s the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, and I’ve grouped these together because – based both on rumors and past form – they’ll probably be sold in the same selection of shades as each other.
There’s also a fair amount of agreement on what colors these phones will be sold in, with one leak pointing to orange[10], dark blue, gray, black, and silver, while MacWorld[11] lists the same shades except with white rather than silver.
A third leaker meanwhile has shown an image of the five possible shades[12], as you can see above, but the orange shade we’ve been hearing about looks more of a brown shade here. Orange has leaked more frequently than brown though[13], so I think that’s more likely, with the other rumored colors – namely black, white or silver, dark blue, and gray – also seeming likely.
That said, Apple’s Pro phones are often only available in four shades rather than five, so it’s possible one of these will be absent. For reference, the iPhone 16 Pro[14] and iPhone 16 Pro Max[15] are sold in Black Titanium, White Titanium, Natural Titanium, and Desert Titanium, so the rumored dark blue shade in particular could look very different to any current options.
