OpenAI has introduced new updates to ChatGPT that affect both casual users and organizations. The company has released Projects for free accounts, and at the same time added new integration and security tools for enterprise and education workspaces.

Projects Available to Everyone

As per OpenAI’s tweet, “Projects in ChatGPT are now available to Free users.” This feature was previously limited to paying subscribers. They act as a way to organize conversations by subject, but they also include settings that shape how the AI responds. Users can add instructions, choose which files the assistant can use, and adjust the look of each project with custom icons and colors.

The number of files depends on the subscription tier. Free users can upload up to five, Plus users can attach 25, and Pro users can use 40. The update is already active in the web version of ChatGPT and the Android app. The iOS app will receive it shortly.

New Tools for Enterprise and Education

Business and education workspaces now have a connector for Microsoft OneDrive and SharePoint. When enabled, it lets staff ask questions and get answers from company files stored in those systems. Administrators control the setup and can adjust access levels as needed.

A second feature, IP allowlisting, adds more control over security. Workspace owners can restrict access to a set of approved addresses. Any request from outside that list is blocked, even with valid login details. The rule applies across ChatGPT endpoints, including file downloads, and is always enforced for Compliance API traffic.

The two sets of changes show how OpenAI is widening ChatGPT in different directions. Free users now have a way to keep conversations organized, while organizations gain deeper file connections and more precise security controls. Both updates continue the company’s approach of moving premium features into broader use while strengthening its enterprise products.
