It’s widely believed that Sony[1] will be holding a State of Play toward the end of this month, and according to a new report, Insomniac’s long-in-development Wolverine[2] game will be featured.

Insider Gaming has the scoop,[3] declaring that not only has a source confirmed a State of Play for this month (which has been widely rumoured for a while now), but that Wolverine will make an appearance.

The source claims that Wolverine‘s trailer has finished production and is ready to go. They say it will “almost certainly” be at the event. Insider Gaming hedge’s their bets by saying that if the trailer does not appear at the State of Play, it will “undoubtedly be released in the next few months, with The Game Awards being the next likely candidate.”

Wolverine was revealed way, way back in 2021 with a very brief teaser trailer of the titular angry Canadian sitting at a bar. It was said to be in very early development at that point. Since then, all we’ve got from Insomniac is brief reassurances that the game is still being worked on.

In 2023, Insomniac was hit by a massive hack which revealed piles of data, including plot details about Wolverine and footage of early builds.

Previous reports have suggested a 2026 release window, giving the game a 5-6 year development time. In today’s industry, that’s not actually hugely unusual. Insomniac, though, has typically been running on around 3-4 years per game, meaning Wolverine would be unusual for them, perhaps indicating some development issues.

Personally, I’m pretty hyped to see it in action. Insomniac has proven itself time and time again since being bought by Sony, and I’m eager to see what they can do with the character of Wolverine.
