After a long 7 year wait, Hollow Knight: Silksong[1] has arrived! Well, kind of, because the launch encountered a couple of errors, including a Sony cock-up and the game being too damn popular for its own good, resulting in storefronts going up in metaphorical flames.

First, an error on Sony’s end resulted in the game being unavailable to buy for many people. The issue was finally resolved, but only after an extra 2 hours of waiting, because apparently 7 years of waiting just wasn’t enough suffering for Sony’s liking.

On top of that, the game’s popularity, along with a lack of pre-load option, resulted in a bunch of storefronts struggling to cope with the surge of people who wanted to get their hands on the game. People reported seeing errors on Steam when trying to purchase it, while both the Nintendo and Xbox storefronts had outages and various error messages popping up, too.

It seems like things are calming down now, though, and people are able to buy and play the hotly anticipated game. In fact, SteamDB[2] is showing a peak player count of over 350k people, which will undoubtedly grow even more across the next few hours. Could it break a million?

So while this has not been the smoothest launch in history, none of this was really the fault of Team Cherry, and has actually only underscored just how insanely popular Hollow Knight: Silksong. Although after spending some time on the subReddit, cult-like might be more accurate. I jest. Mostly.
