Despite having a slightly wonky start,[1] Hollow Knight: Silksong is already a massive success judging by the amount of people currently playing it on Steam. It looks like that 7 year wait didn’t put people off.
SteamDB tracks heaps of fun Steam data, including how many people are currently playing any given game. Even though it only launched a couple of hours ago, Hollow Knight: Silksong has already peaked at an incredible 535,213 concurrent players on Steam.[2]
The first game, Hollow Knight, only ever managed to hit 72,916 concurrent Steam players, which it achieved just one day ago due to the insane hype surrounding Silkgsong sending people scurrying back to the first game.
At the time of writing, Silksong’s half a million players means It’s beating out PUBG, and is only behind DOTA 2 and Counter Strike 2 in terms of people playing right this instant.
But the game’s actual player count must be vastly more impressive, because it launched across Switch, Xbox and PlayStation as well. It’s also available on Game Pass, so who knows how many more people are playing via that. It could potentially be millions.
All signs point toward Hollow Knight: Silksong becoming one of the best-selling indie games of all time.
