El-Kanemi Warriors have found a solid and experienced goalkeeper in Hakeem Otuyiga, who joined the club from relegated side Akwa United. Since arriving, he has made an instant impact.

The coaching staff clearly trust him, as he has started both of the team’s opening matches of the new season — and has kept clean sheets in both.

Strong Start to the Season

In Matchday 1, playing at home against Bendel Insurance, Otuyiga became an instant fan favourite. Supporters loudly chanted his name — “Hakeem! Hakeem!” — as he pulled off key saves and showed strong command in goal. His performance helped El-Kanemi secure a 2-0 victory.

Just a week later, in Lagos against Ikorodu City, he delivered another top performance, making a number of important saves to help keep the team’s unbeaten start to the season intact.

Praise From the Club

El-Kanemi’s Media Director, Gaga Aliyu, said Otuyiga’s performances were good enough to earn him a place in a “Team of the Week” — if one had been made.

Aliyu also praised the impact of other new goalkeepers Iddrisu Ibrahim, Francis Achem, and Modu Milo, saying their arrival has brought depth and strong competition to the goalkeeping department.

“It’s a positive sign for the team’s ambitions this season,” he wrote on a WhatsApp group.
