Vivo has officially launched the Y500 in China, expanding its popular Y-series lineup with a focus on durability and extended battery life. The device offers a substantial hardware upgrade and is designed to perform reliably in extreme conditions, thanks to its IP rating.
Design and Display
The Vivo[1] Y500 features a 6.77-inch AMOLED display with Full HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The panel is protected by Diamond Shield glass, and the phone includes Vivo’s 360-degree drop cushioning with internal shock absorption for added durability. The device is rated IP68 and IP69, making it resistant to dust, submersion in water up to 1.5 meters for over 24 hours, and high-pressure water jets. It is available in Glacier Blue, Dragon Crystal Powder, and Black.
Internals and Software
The Y500 is powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 7300 chipset, offering an improved performance profile compared to its predecessor. It comes in multiple memory configurations, including up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. The device runs on OriginOS 5, which is based on Android 15, providing access to the latest software features.
Cameras
On the rear, the Y500 is equipped with a 50MP main camera with an f/1.8 aperture, accompanied by a 2MP depth sensor. For selfies and video calls, the phone includes an 8MP front camera housed in a punch-hole cutout.
Battery and Pricing
The standout feature of the Y500 is its ginormous 8,200 mAh silicon-carbon battery, offering a high energy density of 847Wh/L. According to Vivo, the phone supports up to 18.4 hours of continuous usage. It also includes 90W wired fast charging and 24-level charging protection to manage temperature, voltage, and current.
Pricing starts at $196 for the 8GB + 128GB version, while the 12GB + 512GB model is priced at $280.
