Saudi Women’s Premier League side Al Hilal have confirmed the signing of Super Falcons striker Asisat Oshoala from Bay FC.
The 30-year-old has agreed to a two-year contract and is expected to play a big role in the club’s chase for trophies over the coming seasons.
Oshoala’s move is another major moment for Nigerian women’s football. She joins fellow Nigerians Ashleigh Plumptre and Francisca Ordega at Al-Ittihad, Chinonyerem Macleans at Al-Shabab, and Rita Chikwelu at Al-Riyadh.
Her departure ends a short but successful spell at Bay FC in the United States. Oshoala was a key figure in their debut season in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), scoring seven goals in 38 matches to finish as the club’s top scorer. She also ranked among the top five in most of Bay FC’s attacking records.
Bay FC Sporting Director Matt Potter praised her impact, saying:
“Asisat has been an incredibly important part of Bay FC history, not only with her impact on the pitch but also through the energy, professionalism, and kindness she brought every day. She is a world-class player and an even better person. We are grateful for everything she gave us and wish her success at Al Hilal.”
Before her move to the U.S., Oshoala enjoyed huge success at Barcelona. She scored 107 goals and made 19 assists in 149 games, helping the Spanish giants win five straight league titles and two UEFA Women’s Champions League trophies.
Her career has also taken her to Arsenal and Liverpool in England, as well as a trophy-winning spell in China with Dalian Quanjian.
Widely seen as one of Africa’s greatest female footballers, Oshoala’s experience and proven quality will be vital for Al Hilal as they aim to dominate Saudi Arabia and compete strongly on the continental stage.
