The Super Eagles opened camp in Uyo on Monday, 1 September, ahead of their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa. On the same day, several Nigerian stars completed big transfer moves in Europe, adding excitement and fresh optimism to the national team.
Uche Christantus sealed a surprise switch to Premier League side Crystal Palace, Cyriel Dessers joined Greek champions Panathinaikos, Tolu Arokodare signed for Wolverhampton Wanderers, Samuel Chukwueze moved to Fulham, and Victor Boniface left Bayer Leverkusen for a loan spell at Werder Bremen.
These moves could not have come at a better time. With more opportunities for playing time and new challenges at their clubs, the players will be motivated to prove themselves, which could translate into stronger performances for Nigeria.
Analysts believe that the transfers can boost confidence and improve form. Chukwueze, joining Fulham, has the chance to re-establish himself in the Premier League, while Arokodare’s move to Wolves could test him at the highest level. Dessers will add Champions League experience from Panathinaikos, and Christantus will relish the chance to shine again in England.

Head coach Eric Chelle has invited 23 players for the double-header. The team’s first official training session is set for Tuesday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium practice pitch.
