Brentford forward Yoane Wissa has officially asked to leave the club, revealing his desire to join Newcastle United before the transfer window closes.

The 27-year-old, who joined Brentford in 2021, released a statement on Saturday saying he feels “unduly” blocked from making the move despite what he described as “a series of fair offers” made during the summer.

“I have stayed silent for much of the summer, but with just hours remaining of the transfer window I feel compelled to make it clear that I want to leave Brentford,” Wissa said. “I believe the club are standing in my way despite promising not to if a reasonable offer came in.”

The DR Congo international, who has scored 49 goals in 149 appearances for the Bees, stressed his pride in playing for the club but admitted he is frustrated with how talks have developed.

“Earlier this summer, I spoke openly with senior management and was told I would be allowed to leave if the right bid came in. That was also confirmed in writing. Newcastle submitted an offer, and I made it clear I wanted to join. But now the club has changed its position,” he explained.

Wissa also thanked Brentford supporters for their backing during his time at the club, adding that they would “always have a special place in my heart.”

The forward, born in France but representing DR Congo internationally, has been a key figure for Brentford since their promotion to the Premier League, but his future now looks uncertain as the transfer deadline looms.
