Gears of War: Reloaded might be the first Gears game on PlayStation[1], but with Xbox switching strategies to one of publishing across all platforms, it won’t be the last. Indeed, Gears of War: Reloaded[2] itself seems to be teasing that fact.
Reloaded has exactly the same Achievement list as the original game, which means the PlayStation Trophy list is also identical. Except, of course, for one Trophy: the Platinum. Earned by unlocking every single other Trophy, the Platinum has no equivalent on Xbox[3]. And those cheeky buggers at The Coalition have used that fact to tease more Gears.
The Platinum Trophy is called “Nothin’ Left” and this is its description: “Your adventure is over, for now…”
That is a fairly clear message that more Gears of War games are coming to PlayStation. But which one/s? The obvious hope is that the rest of the original trilogy will get the remaster treatment, finally bringing the awesome Gears of War 2 and Gears of War 3 to modern hardware instead of using Xbox back-compat. And then there’s the release of Gears of War: E-Day[4] next year, a prequel to this very game. Given Xbox’s current strategy, there’s a very strong possibility that it’ll launch on PlayStation.
Right now, we don’t know how successful Reloaded has been. We do know it hit a million players in its first four days[5], but no sales data for PlayStation has been announced.
