Gears of War: Reloaded may have had a rather rough start on Steam[1], but it’s doing well elsewhere, apparently topping over a million players.

The news was shared on the official Gears of War X account, which also claimed that the game is “Ending the console war, one grub at a time.”

Bit of a bold claim? Probably. Putting that proclamation aside for a minute, though, it’s definitely a crazy moment in history to see Gears on PlayStation[2].

You’ll probably have noticed that, as per usual, Microsoft is only sharing the player count and not copies sold. That’s frustrating because I’d love to know how many sales have been on PlayStation so far, which is also where most of money is going to come from. On PC and Xbox[3], players can get the game via Game Pass, and anyone who already owns Gears of War Ultimate Edition gets this new version for free.

The comments were the usual bloodbath, but one rings true: the multiplayer currently has a problem with the Gnasher shotgun being far too overpowered. It’s currently downing people at range with one shot.

Anyway, I’ve played a little of remaster, and enjoyed it. That said, I’m unsure if a full review is coming because there’s not much to say – it’s a very simple up-res of a remaster of the original game. But maybe it’d be worth it just to revisit Gears of War itself and see how it holds up nearly two decades later.
