If you named your Gen Alpha or Gen Z son “Mason,” and he decided to play baseball, we’re sorry that you have to hear him quote the “67” meme all day.

For those fortunate to have not named their son with a “-son” suffix, you might be confused as to why “Mason 67” is now a meme.

The idea of a “Mason” is a new stereotype about suburban white boys who, outside of baseball practice, supposedly go fishing and praise Jesus — at least, that’s all according to the cliché social media name they’re said to choose, which reads with a surprisingly involved emoji sequence, “🏳️‍🌈🫷😎✝️ Mason ⚾️🎣🫸🏳️‍⚧️.”

Still confused about what we’re talking about? Don’t worry, that’s fine. Let’s explain what a “67 Mason” kid is and why it’s a trending meme.

What Is The ‘Mason 67’ Meme?

It’s back-to-school season in America, which means that many kids are going shopping for new clothes. This year, there’s supposedly a new look that’s popular with the boys. It consists of a few items and hairstyles, which make up the so-called “Mason 67” stereotype.

The base template of a “Mason 67” kid is an “ice cream haircut,” Pit Viper sunglasses, Yeezy Slides, a backwards baseball cap and ice cream graphic shorts from the sports brand Baseball Lifestyle.

Stereotypically, these types of boys like to play baseball and say the numbers six and seven, akin to the viral meme that combines the two.

The general consensus on these boys, from their peers and older onlookers, seems to be a “cringe” response. Memes about “Mason 67” kids often mock the fashion and lifestyle choices of the internet-age tykes.

What Is The ’67’ Meme?

The numbers six and seven are a meme because of the hook in a viral rap song called “Doot Doot” by Skrilla, who says, “6-7, I just bipped right on the highway.”

Some believe that the numbers reference 67th Street in Chicago, but Skrilla is from Philadelphia. This has led others to believe it means “6 feet under, 7 feet apart,” which is about burying bodies. A similar reference was made in Lil Wayne’s 2011 song “6 Foot 7 Foot.”

The song became a trend when a LaMelo Ball NBA edit showed the player shimmying his hands to the “6-7” part. From there, influencers started replicating the move, which eventually trickled down to kids imitating it.

Since then, the “6-7” meme has been viewed as “cringe,” mostly due to viral videos like the 67 Kid, which exemplified the stereotypical boy who thought the numbers still went hard.

Where Did The ‘Mason 67’ Meme Come From?

The name “Mason” became associated with the “cringe” stereotype of young white boys saying “6-7” after a TikToker named @chalk.your.ego laid out the stereotype in a viral video.

“Yeah, my name is Mason,” the text caption read, placed above a slideshow flashing images of ice cream hair and ice cream shorts.

As young white kids started dominating the usage of “67,” the “Mason” archetype blended with the parallel disdain for the appropriation of AAVE by suburban boys.

Quickly, there were Masons everywhere with the eyes to see them. “Why is my brother a Mason?” asked one TikToker in a viral video.

In many ways, “Mason” is the son of the “Karen” meme, which similarly latched onto a cliche white person name, however, for another reason. Karens are instead said to be stuck-up white women from an older generation.
