Amid rising regulatory scrutiny of digital platforms in Pakistan, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has received a formal letter from the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP), urging a review of the popular e-commerce app TEMU.

The development signals growing concern among regulators about consumer protection, market practices, and compliance with national laws.

According to officials, the CCP’s communication includes multiple allegations against TEMU, which prompted the telecom regulator to begin an internal review process. The PTA is expected to hold deliberations in the coming days to assess the matter in detail.

In the initial phase, the Authority will assess whether any criminal element is involved that requires referral to other relevant agencies,” an official source said.

The regulator will also examine the scope of CCP’s jurisdiction in this case.

Sources confirmed that PTA will also explore potential legal grounds for a ban, should evidence support regulatory intervention. However, the final decision will be made after a thorough evaluation of the CCP’s claims and the platform’s compliance with local laws.

The move reflects a broader push by Pakistani regulators to strengthen oversight of global digital services operating in the country. With the increasing adoption of e-commerce platforms, authorities are now placing greater emphasis on consumer rights, fair market competition, and accountability.
