Walmart is using Ohio-based Ranpak to install AutoFill systems in five next-generation fulfillment centers. Terms of the contract were not made pubic. Walmart now uses the AutoFill system at its McCordsville, Ind., fulfillment center.
Ranpak will install the system at Walmart fulfillment facilities in Greencastle, Penn., Joliet, Ill., Lancaster, Texas, and Stockton, Calif.
“At Walmart, we are constantly seeking solutions that increase speed of service for our customers and simplify work for our associates,” said Vik Gopalakrishnan, Walmart senior vice president of automation engineering. “Ranpak’s Autofill system offers us a meaningful way to reduce packaging waste and get our products into our customers’ hands faster.”
Introduced in 2021, the AutoFill system, when paired with Ranpak’s Decision Tower, is a fully automated process that fills and closes boxes using machine-visioning technology that includes artificial intelligence. According to Ranpak, the system reduces waste and damage to shipped items, “while improving throughput.”
“Our collaboration with Walmart represents a significant milestone for Ranpak as we continue to scale our automation capabilities to meet the needs of the world’s largest retailers,” said Ranpak CEO Omar Asali. “Walmart’s ongoing investment in automation reflects our shared commitment to reducing friction for associates while optimizing performance across every stage of the supply chain.”
