Liverpool have enjoyed a productive summer in the transfer market but their business may not be over yet

Just like that, we are now less than one week from the transfer window slamming shut until January.

The Premier League is now back in full swing as clubs look to get their campaign off to a positive start while bleeding in their new additions.

It has been a productive summer for many clubs in the transfer market who have got their business done early to have the maximum amount of time to prepare.

However, there remains a legion of players who will be hoping that their dream move can come at the last minute.

Read on as Daily Mail Sport takes you through 14 of the biggest players in football who are yet to finalise a transfer this summer.

Alexander Isak

The biggest ongoing transfer saga of the summer, Alexander Isak’s will he, won’t he move to Liverpool has dominated the headlines for months.

The Swedish striker has been Newcastle’s top scorer since his arrival in 2022 and he netted 23 Premier League goals last season to finish second in the scoring charts.

Isak has made it clear that he intends on leaving St James’ Park, and has insisted to club chiefs that Anfield is the only destination he is interested in.

As it stands, Liverpool’s only official bid for the striker was quickly knocked back but don’t be surprised to see some movement regarding Isak’s future in the coming days.

Gianluigi Donnarumma

It should perhaps come as a surprise that Gianluigi Donnarumma is even featuring on this list.

After all, the 26-year-old is coming off a campaign that saw him help PSG to their first Champions League title and a fourth consecutive Ligue 1 title.

However, football moves fast and the towering 6ft 5in shot stopper now finds himself searching for a new club in the closing stages of the transfer window.

Manchester City have emerged as the most likely candidate to secure the Italian’s signature, but any potential move would need long-time No 1 Ederson to complete an exit sometime this week.

Alejandro Garnacho

Unlike some of his contemporaries on this list, Alejandro Garnacho’s departure from Man United will come as no surprise to those who have followed his situation.

Garnacho hit out at United boss Ruben Amorim after being named on the bench for the Europa League final in May and the Portuguese responded by telling him he needs to ‘pray’ he can find a new club in front of team-mates.

However, despite reports of interest from Chelsea, Garnacho is still yet to seal a move away from the club that he joined as a teenager.

Most recently, the Blues are said to have offered a deal involving youngster Tyrique George which United reportedly refused as they look to cash in for PSR purposes.

Nicolas Jackson

One way Chelsea could raise the cash to fund a deal for Garnacho would be to sell Nicolas Jackson.

Jackson informed the Chelsea hierarchy earlier this month that he would be keen to explore a transfer away from west London this summer.

A number of European clubs have been linked with a move for the Senegalese striker but it appears that his most likely destination is the Bundesliga, based on recent reports.

Bayern Munich are said to be interested in signing the forward on loan, while Chelsea continue to favour a permanent sale as Enzo Maresca re-shapes his squad for his second season in charge.

Rasmus Hojlund

It’s probably fair to say that Rasmus Hojlund’s Manchester United career never really got going.

Signed for an eye-watering £72million in 2023, Hojlund was immediately burdened with the weight of expectations and has never been able to deliver on his promise in a United shirt.

Ahead of the start of the current campaign, Ruben Amorim informed the 22-year-old that he was not part of his plans and that he should start seeking a move away from Old Trafford.

As it stands, Serie A champions Napoli appear poised to sign Hojlund with United prepared to take a significant loss on the exorbitant fee they paid for him in order to push the deal through.

Kobbie Mainoo

Just 18 months ago Kobbie Mainoo appeared to have the world at his feet.

The midfielder had emerged from United’s youth academy before quickly becoming an integral part of Erik ten Hag’s side and regularly representing England at senior level.

Since the arrival of Ruben Amorim at United however, Mainoo has seen his game time decrease and he appeared downcast after again not being called off the bench United drew with Fulham on Sunday.

Should United opt to allow Mainoo to move on they not only would have no shortage of suitors but they would also make a healthy profit on their academy graduate in terms of PSR.

Marc Guehi

Another transfer window and another summer of speculation surrounding Marc Guehi’s future at Crystal Palace.

Guehi has been a consistent performer at Selhurst Park since arriving at the club in 2021 and appeared set to be joining Newcastle last summer in a deal that ultimately did not come to fruition.

The England centre back remains a hot commodity, however, and Premier League champions Liverpool see him as an ideal signing.

After Palace’s Community Shield win earlier this month club chairman Steve Parish admitted they may have to sell if the right bid comes in with his contract expiring next summer. Watch this space.

Christopher Nkunku

A second member of Chelsea’s so-called ‘bomb squad’ to feature on this list, Christopher Nkunku is expected to leave Stamford Bridge this summer.

The 27-year-old has found himself out-of-favour in west London under Enzo Maresca but a number of teams have joined the race to sign him.

Several Bundesliga clubs are said to be keeping tabs of the France international, including Bayern Munich and Nkunku’s former side RB Leipzig.

However, should the forward favour remaining in the Premier League, Aston Villa are understood to be mulling over a potential move for him before Monday’s deadline.

Yoane Wissa

It’s been a tough summer to be a Brentford supporter all things considered.

The Bees have watched longtime boss Thomas Frank depart after seven years in charge, while club captain Christian Norgaard and last season’s top scorer Bryan Mbeumo have also moved on to explore pastures new.

But the pain may not yet be over for fans as Yoane Wissa remains a target for Newcastle as a potential replacement for Alexander Isak in the event the Swede departs St James’ Park.

Wissa is intent on a move this summer, but it remains to be seen if his wish will be granted as other pieces of the puzzle will first need to fall into place in order for a sale to be sanctioned.

Xavi Simons

While Chelsea continue to push forward moves away from the club this summer, the Blues remain intent on bringing in another new arrival before the window slams shut.

For Enzo Maresca, RB Leipzig midfielder Xavi Simons is that player.

Chelsea have been in talks with the Dutchman’s camp for weeks and are believed to have already agreed personal terms.

Simons is understood to be intent on joining the club, with a deal expected to be completed in the closing days of the transfer window.

Lucas Paqueta

If not for a lengthy FA investigation into spot-fixing, Lucas Paqueta may well be a Manchester City player right now.

After all, it was West Ham informing Pep Guardiola’s side of the looming saga that put an end to a big-money move to the then-champions in the summer of 2023.

With the investigation now behind him, Paqueta has a new lease of life in football and could yet depart the London Stadium this summer.

Both Tottenham and Aston Villa are understood to be interested in a move for the Brazil international, and the promise of European football could lure him away from the Hammers.

Jadon Sancho

For Jadon Sancho, you have to think that almost any move will do this summer as he attempts to revitalise his career.

With the benefit of hindsight, Sancho’s four-year stint at Manchester United has morphed into something of a nightmare for the former England international.

Despite spending last season on loan at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea ultimately opted not to sign the winger permanently once again confining him to transfer limbo with no path towards reconciliation at Old Trafford.

Reports have suggested that a number of Italian teams are chasing Sancho’s signature, but Roma chief Frederic Massara recently claimed that he has been lacking ‘motivation’ during negotiations.

Antony

Like Sancho, Antony found himself surplus to requirements at Man United last season before being shipped away from the club on loan.

However, after arriving at Real Betis the Brazilian made an immediate impact and showed signs of the promise that made him so coveted before his arrival in the Premier League.

Betis have maintained an interest in bringing Antony back to the club with United dismissing the possibility of allowing him to leave on loan once more.

However, Betis are currently planning another approach as they attempt to re-sign the former Ajax man.

Raheem Sterling

No stranger to move late in the transfer window, Raheem Sterling joined Arsenal on deadline day last summer after being informed he was surplus to requirements at Chelsea.

Following a well trodden path across London, Sterling ultimately couldn’t replicate the success of some of his contemporaries at the Emirates and now again finds himself searching for a new club.

Daily Mail Sport revealed three weeks ago that Sterling’s preference was to stay in London and that West Ham, Fulham and Crystal Palace were among his options.

We added at the time that his situation was not expected to be resolved until closer to the window’s end. Others in Europe, such as Besiktas in Turkey, have also asked for the particulars of Sterling’s position.
