Akwa Ibom State on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, officially bade farewell to its contingent for the 9th National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State, with a strong charge from the Governor, Pastor Umo Eno.

Speaking at the send-off ceremony held at the Uyo Township Stadium through the Commissioner for Sports, Elder Paul Bassey, the Governor reminded the athletes of the faithfulness of God in granting them life and the rare privilege of representing the state. He urged them to remain disciplined, determined, and focused throughout the competition.

“The faithfulness of God for life is the reason you are here, and for that, you must give thanks. Secondly, it is a privilege to represent your state at the National Youth Games. Many young people out there would have loved to be in your position, but you were chosen, and so you must make good use of this opportunity.

“Many of you are competing for the first time, and from here you may have the chance to travel to other states or even represent Nigeria internationally. Sports is a great leveller that can lift a child from humble beginnings to global relevance,” Elder Bassey said.

He added:

“If you go to Asaba and win, you will be seen and considered for the national team. Stay focused, remain disciplined, and do not allow anything to distract you. In line with the ARISE Agenda, your aim is to go for gold. The Governor sent me here to wish you well, and I assure you that we will take care of you, so you have nothing to worry about.”

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Sports, Mrs Rosemary Ubia, shared joyful moments with the athletes, singing and dancing to the popular tune “Na my state be this o, we no get another one.” She encouraged the young athletes to give their very best and return with gold medals for Akwa Ibom.
