Christantus Uche could make his final appearance for Getafe as he closes in on a move to the Premier League.

The 22-year-old Nigerian midfielder is the subject of a €20 million bid from Wolverhampton Wanderers, with talks between the two clubs progressing quickly.

Despite his pending transfer, Uche asked to travel with Getafe’s squad for their La Liga clash against Sevilla, wanting the chance to share the pitch one last time with his teammates and possibly face compatriots Kelechi Iheanacho, Chidera Ejuke and Akor Adams, who all play for Sevilla.

Reports in Spain suggest he may not feature much at the Sánchez Pizjuán, as Getafe are keen to avoid any injury to their most valuable player before a deal is finalised.

Uche joined Getafe for just €500,000 and has grown into one of their standout players, meaning his departure would provide a major financial boost. The club has been struggling under La Liga’s salary cap rules and has only been able to register three of its nine summer signings.

Wolves are leading the race for his signature, but Everton, Brentford, Leeds United and Real Sociedad have also shown interest. Everton once looked favourites and even explored a €30 million move, but Wolves’ decisive bid has put them in front.

Although his release clause is €25 million, Getafe may accept Wolves’ lower offer as the transfer deadline approaches. Club president Ángel Torres has admitted sales may be necessary to ease financial pressure, even if he would prefer to keep the Nigerian star.

Uche had a breakthrough season in La Liga last term, scoring four goals and providing six assists in 33 matches. He also started the new campaign in fine form, scoring and assisting in a 2-0 win over Celta Vigo on the opening day.

If he completes his transfer, Uche will become the seventh Nigerian to play for Wolves, following George Ndah, Ade Akinbiyi, Isaac Okoronkwo, Carl Ikeme, Seyi Olofinjana and Bright Enobakhare.
