Manchester United’s eight-game winning run at Craven Cottage ended on Sunday as Emile Smith Rowe scored a late equaliser to give Fulham a 1-1 draw in the Premier League.

United missed a big chance to go ahead in the first half when Bruno Fernandes fired a penalty over the bar after Calvin Bassey fouled Mason Mount at a corner.

The visitors finally took the lead in the 58th minute, when Leny Yoro’s header from a Bryan Mbeumo corner deflected off Rodrigo Muniz and wrong-footed goalkeeper Bernd Leno.

Fulham hit back in the 72nd minute. Substitute Smith Rowe, making his debut, finished off Alex Iwobi’s perfect cross just 93 seconds after coming on.

United’s new £200 million strike force of Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Mbeumo all had chances, with Sesko hitting the post, but Fulham’s defence stayed strong.

Ryan Sessegnon almost scored for Fulham in the first half, only for United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir to rush out and save. Bayindir looked more comfortable passing from the back than Andre Onana, but he struggled to deal with corners.

The draw ended United’s long winning run at the Cottage, while Marco Silva’s Fulham earned a boost from their fightback.

After the match, Smith Rowe said:

“We are very competitive in training and always want to score. When you come off the bench, you have to work hard and take your chance.”

United continue to search for consistency under Ruben Amorim, while Fulham will be encouraged by their display.
