Microsoft is currently testing a new Windows 11 feature that enables users to resume Android app activity directly on their PC. The feature is being gradually rolled out to Windows Insiders in the Dev and Beta Channels, with initial support limited to the Spotify app.

How the Feature Works

This feature allows users to pick up where they left off on their phone. If a user starts playing a song on the Spotify mobile app, Windows 11 will display a “Resume from your phone” notification. The prompt appears with the Spotify icon and an option to “Continue on this PC.”

Here is what it looks like.

Once selected, the PC will either open Spotify’s desktop app or ask the user to install it, continuing the playback seamlessly on the computer.

This handoff-style feature works via Microsoft’s Phone Link integration. Users have to connect their Android device to their PC. Once linked, the system tracks supported app activity and surfaces relevant handoff prompts in Windows 11’s notification center.

Comparison to Apple’s Handoff

The new feature closely resembles Apple’s Handoff capability on macOS and iOS, which allows users to continue working across devices. While Apple supports a wide range of apps and activities, Microsoft’s current implementation is limited to Spotify and does not yet include broader app or web session transfers.

Microsoft has not confirmed which other apps or services may be supported in the future. However, the feature could be extended to enable users to resume reading, writing emails, or browsing articles that were started on a mobile device.

The feature was first showcased in a now-deleted Build 2025 demo and may become a key component of Microsoft’s broader ecosystem integration strategy.
