Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi is facing uncertainty at Nottingham Forest after the club’s heavy summer spending on new attackers.

The Nigerian forward only returned to training in July following a long recovery from a serious abdominal injury he suffered in May against Leicester City. Awoniyi underwent emergency surgery for a ruptured intestine and was placed in a medically induced coma before making a remarkable recovery that kept him out for months.

But while his comeback was welcomed, the 27-year-old is now unsettled after Forest reshaped their attack. The club spent over £100 million to bring in Igor Jesus from Botafogo, Dan Ndoye from Bologna, Omari Hutchinson from Ipswich Town, and Arnaud Kalimuendo from Rennes.

Ndoye and Hutchinson are expected to play key roles in Nuno Espírito Santo’s frontline, while Kalimuendo is also tipped for regular minutes. Their arrival has left Awoniyi worried about being pushed down the pecking order at the City Ground.

Sources close to the striker suggest he is open to leaving Forest in search of regular football, especially with the Africa Cup of Nations approaching.

The situation comes at a tense time for the club, with reports of a strained relationship between manager Nuno and owner Evangelos Marinakis. If the uncertainty continues, Awoniyi could soon be playing under a new manager or at a new club altogether.

With the transfer window still open, Awoniyi’s camp is expected to either explore options away from Forest or hold talks with the club over his future.
