After what feels like an eternity, Hollow Knight: Silksong finally has a release date confirmed: September 4, 2025.

Gamescom was surrounded with the usual buzz that Hollow Knight: Silksong might make an appearance, but the developers themselves revealed they would be making a “special announcement” on August 21.

The brief teaser video shows off some shiny new gameplay for those who weren’t lucky enough to attend Gamescom where they could go hands-on with Silksong.

Silksong’s development has been a long and winding journey. Originally conceived as DLC for the critically acclaimed Hollow Knight back in 2019, the project quickly grew in scope as Team Cherry expanded its world, mechanics, and protagonist, Hornet. What started as an expansion spiralled into a full-blown sequel, with the small Australian studio repeatedly stating they didn’t want to release the game until it met their exacting standards. That perfectionism has led to a development period spanning over half a decade, with fans eagerly awaiting each new crumb of information.

And I do mean eagerly. The official Reddit page is a place of crushed dreams, manic hope and insane inside jokes and references.

When it finally launches on, Hollow Knight: Silksong will be available on PC, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. Microsoft has also confirmed that the game will be a day-one addition to Xbox Game Pass, meaning subscribers can dive into Hornet’s long-awaited adventure at no extra cost.
