SportsRation reporter Nsikakabasi Akpan has been appointed as the new Deputy Media Manager of Akwa United Football Club.
Akpan, who has written for SportsRation since 2022, confirmed the news on Wednesday, 20 August 2025, describing the appointment as a dream come true.
“Growing up as a young boy, going to the stadium with my father to watch Akwa United play was one of my most treasured moments,” Akpan said. “Today, that memory becomes even more precious with this privileged appointment as Deputy Media Manager of our beloved club.
“This is a huge leap for me, and I promise to give my all to justify this confidence reposed in me.”
He also expressed gratitude to his family, friends, and followers on Facebook, dedicating the milestone to them while calling for continued support for Akwa United as the club pushes for promotion back to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
Meanwhile, the Akwa Ibom State Government has reconstituted the club’s management. Mr Joseph Eno, an Accounting graduate of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, is the new chairman of Akwa United.
Eno retired from Total Energies after 20 years as a Contract and Procurement Manager. A long-time football lover, he has led school, university and corporate teams and continues to contribute to grassroots football in the state.
Other members of the new management team include Pastor Ini Edoho (Vice Chairman), Mr Jimmy Joshua (General Manager) and Elder Omon Bassey (Secretary). Mr Festus Akpan has been appointed Team Manager, while Mr Mfon Patrick is the new Media Manager with Nsikakabasi Akpan serving as his deputy.
