Reality TV star Spencer Pratt collided with U.S Sen. Rick Scott on social media to ask for a federal investigation into the South California fires.
Pratt became famous — or infamous, depending on who you ask — from MTV’s “The Hills” television show. But earlier this year, Pratt and his wife, Heidi Montag, lost their home to the Pacific Palisades fire.
Pratt has since turned from a reality TV villain into a political activist. He appeared with Florida’s senior Senator on Pratt’s Instagram account Wednesday.
“I let him know the victims out in the Palisades are demanding a congressional investigation,” Pratt said.
The camera then cut to Scott, who quipped, “I’m going to do my best to make sure it happens.”
“Stay tuned,” Pratt said. “I’ll obviously keep you posted. We are going to get to the bottom of how our town burned out and how 12 senior citizens were killed. So stay tuned.”
Pratt traveled to Washington earlier this month and met with Attorney General Pam Bondi and others to hold California officials accountable. Montag has also spoken out about the tragedy.
“I have no photos, I have no memorabilia. Just stuff for the kids. Everything’s gone,” Montag told People Magazine in April.
On social media, Pratt regularly slams Gov. Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and accuses them of mishandling the government’s response to the fires.
“I’m literally their worst nightmare because I have nothing to lose, and all I’m ever going to do is just post actual facts,” Pratt told Variety. “The more of these meetings I take, the more I find out about how preventable this was. It’s actually criminal negligence because in the Palisades fire alone, 12 people died. These people shouldn’t have died.”
The couple sued the city of Los Angeles this year.
“The complaint blames Los Angeles and its municipal water department for the water issues that hampered firefighting efforts and says it ultimately led to the damage to their properties,” The Associated Press reported.
