Eberechi Eze’s move to Tottenham is expected to be agreed in the next ‘two to three days’, Daily Mail Sport understands.
Sources have disclosed that the deal to take the talented Crystal Palace playmaker across London is edging closer for a fee of around £50m plus add-ons – although the Eagles remain adamant they will not let the player go until they have a replacement lined up.
Talks between the two clubs have taken place this week – and further discussions are planned – but there is now a hope that a breakthrough will happen before the weekend.
Palace do not want to lose the England forward without being able to move to bring in a successor and are wary that time is limited given the window closes at the start of next month.
Spurs have long been admirers of Eze and have stepped up their interest following the injury to James Maddison, who suffered an anterior cruciate ligament rupture. To add to the situation Dejan Kulusevski, another attacking midfielder, is out with a knee issue.
Eze did have a £68m release clause in his contract, but it expired last Friday. Queen’s Park Rangers, his former club, are entitled to 15 per cent of any profit Palace make. The Eagles paid around £19m for Eze, a boyhood Arsenal fan, five years ago.
