Appfigures Intelligence data for July shows a clear difference between which apps people are downloading and which ones are generating the most money.

ChatGPT was the most installed app worldwide in July with 52 million downloads across iOS and Google Play. That included 14 million on Apple’s store and 38 million on Android. The growth pushed its lifetime revenue above $2 billion.

TikTok came second with 39 million installs, supported by TikTok Lite on Google Play. Instagram was third with 38 million downloads, drawn from 10 million iOS and 31 million Android installs.

Facebook ranked fourth with 30 million downloads, including 10 million on iOS and 25 million on Google Play. WhatsApp followed in fifth with 27 million installs, split between 9 million iOS and 21 million Android.

Temu returned to growth and placed sixth with 26 million installs, based on 9 million from iOS and 17 million from Android. CapCut was seventh with 23 million downloads, split between 10 million iOS and 13 million Android.

Threads took eighth with 23 million installs, 11 million on iOS and 12 million on Android. Telegram ranked ninth with 20 million downloads, including 6 million iOS and 14 million Android. Snapchat closed the list in tenth with 20 million installs, made up of 4 million on iOS and 16 million on Google Play.

Together, the top ten added 298 million downloads in July, up three percent from June.

TikTok continued to generate the most revenue, bringing in $358 million after platform fees. That included $243 million from iOS and $115 million from Google Play. It was TikTok’s lowest revenue since April but still the highest among all apps.

ChatGPT ranked second with $196 million, split between $155 million from iOS and $40 million from Google Play. The figure was $11 million higher than June. YouTube was third with $140 million, an increase of about two percent from the previous month.

Tinder earned $122 million in fourth place, with $86 million from iOS and $36 million from Android. The app’s revenue has been pressured by competition from other dating platforms.

Disney+ was fifth with $112 million, including $70 million from iOS and $42 million from Google Play. CapCut generated $85 million, while HBO Max reached $92 million. Google One earned $91 million, almost entirely from Android subscriptions. Tencent Video took in $67 million, and LinkedIn reported $60 million, mostly from iOS users.

Across the top ten, combined revenue totaled $1.3 billion after fees, slightly below June.
