Gavin Newsom’s Press Office Copying Trump refers to a series of posts made by California governor Gavin Newsom’s official Press Office X account @GovPressOffice in August 2025, that seemingly mocked the signature style of President Donald Trump’s Truth Social posts. The posts were supposedly an effort to promote Gavin Newsom’s redistricting efforts in California, which Newsom claims is a reaction to gerrymandering in Texas. The tweets mocked Donald Trump’s rhetoric by mimicking his use of all-caps, making references to his repeated statements about winning a Nobel Peace Prize, and his tendency to end his posts with his initials “DJT” and the line, “THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER.” Governor Newsom’s Press Office also posted AI-generated photos recreating notable images like King Trump and the Donald Trump Raised Fist image. On August 17th, conservative commentator Tomi Lahren criticized the Press Office account for posting a response likening gay conservative Scott Presler to Representative Nancy Mace. The account doubled down on the tweet, saying that Tomi’s objection “sounds woke.” The account is supposedly run by Newsom’s Director of Communications Izzy Gardon and his Digital Director Camille Harper Zapata.

On August 11th, 2025, Governor Gavin Newsom’s Press Officer @GovPressOffice posted a tweet in Donald Trump’s signature all-caps style, threatening to redistrict California, and neutralize Texas Republicans’ gerrymandering push for five more U.S. House seats, as per the Washington Post. The tweet, which gathered 5 million views and 96,000 likes, read:

Governor Newsom’s official communications account @GovPressOffice continued to post tweets mocking Donald Trump’s all-caps style of posting, including this August 12th, 2025, post that reads, “DONALD ‘TACO’ TRUMP, AS MANY CALL HIM, ‘MISSED’ THE DEADLINE!!! CALIFORNIA WILL NOW DRAW NEW, MORE ‘BEAUTIFUL MAPS’ […] BIG PRESS CONFERENCE THIS WEEK WITH POWERFUL DEMS AND GAVIN NEWSOM — YOUR FAVORITE GOVERNOR — THAT WILL BE DEVASTATING FOR ‘MAGA.'”

According to The Guardian, Gov. Gavin Newsom unveiled his redistricting measure with the the “Election Rigging Response Act” on August 14, 2025, pushing for five more U.S. House seats in the state of California.

On August 15th, X account @GovPressOffice made a post mocking Donald Trump’s calls for winning a Nobel Peace Prize, writing, “MANY PEOPLE ARE SAYING — AND I AGREE — THAT I, GAVIN C. On August 14th, Gavin Newsom responded to press asking him about tweets made by his office “clearly trolling the president.” Newsom responded, “I hope it’s a wake up call for the president. I’m just following his example.” A video of the interaction posted by X user @Acyn gathered over 2 million views and 74,000 likes in five days.

On August 17th, 2025, X account @GovPressOffice responded to a tweet by gay conservative influencer Scott Presler, writing, “thank you, Nancy Mace.

The tweet caught the attention of conservative influencer Tomi Lahren, who wrote, “You’re kidding me right? Your state and your bullshit Governor rant and rave on a daily basis about protecting gay people, and you’re really going to use your official press office account to troll a gay conservative and call him a woman?”

Tomi Lahren’s repost of @GovPressOffice’s tweet later elicited the reply, “you sound woke,” which ratioed the post 46,000 likes to 3,000 likes.
