85 percent of telecom sites affected by recent floods and cloudbursts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been restored within 48 hours, according to sources in the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
The natural disaster had damaged over 200 telecom towers, severely disrupting communication networks, particularly in Swat, Buner, and Shangla.
PTA, in coordination with Cellular Mobile Operators (CMOs), launched immediate restoration efforts to minimize service downtime. As a result, most communication systems in the affected areas have been brought back online, restoring essential connectivity for residents and emergency services.
PTA teams visited the impacted regions to assess on-ground conditions and held meetings with local administration officials. These engagements helped coordinate relief and restoration activities. According to PTA sources, local authorities and political leadership acknowledged the swift response and technical efforts made to resume services.
Work is underway to restore the remaining telecom sites, with PTA confirming that every possible step is being taken in collaboration with CMOs to ensure complete recovery as quickly as possible. The focus remains on restoring full services while reducing disruption for users.
In support of the affected communities, CMOs are offering free on-net voice calls in flood-hit areas. PTA stated it will continue to monitor telecom services in these regions closely and provide timely updates to keep the public informed.
