The luggage of six Super Falcons players has finally arrived in Lagos after being stranded in Morocco for three weeks.
The bags, belonging to Rasheedat Ajibade, Ifeoma Onumonu, Chinwendu Ihezuo, Deborah Abiodun, Folashade Ijamilusi, and Toni Payne, are now stored at the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) cargo section of Murtala Mohammed International Airport.
Journalist Osasu Obayiuwana confirmed that the luggage arrived on Sunday.
The issue began when ValueJet, the airline that flew the Super Falcons back after their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) victory in July, reportedly limited the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to just 60 bags.
Nigeria defeated hosts Morocco 3–2 in a thrilling final to win their 10th continental title. Following the triumph, President Bola Tinubu honoured the team with the national award of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), a three-bedroom apartment each in Abuja, and a $100,000 cash gift. Members of the technical crew received $50,000 each.
Although the luggage has now reached Lagos, it is still unclear how and when the bags will be delivered to the players, many of whom have since returned to their clubs in Europe, Asia, and America.
The NFF has not yet issued a statement on the matter.
