Wordle hints (game #1520) – clue #1 – Vowels
How many vowels does today’s Wordle have?
• Wordle today has vowels in two places*.
* Note that by vowel we mean the five standard vowels (A, E, I, O, U), not Y (which is sometimes counted as a vowel too).
Wordle hints (game #1520) – clue #2 – first letter
What letter does today’s Wordle begin with?
• The first letter in today’s Wordle answer is L.
L is a surprisingly uncommon starting letter in Wordle. Despite being the sixth most common letter overall, it’s only ranked 12th at the beginning of a word.
Wordle hints (game #1520) – clue #3 – repeated letters
Does today’s Wordle have any repeated letters?
• There are no repeated letters in today’s Wordle.
Repeated letters are quite common in the game, with 748 of the 2,309 Wordle answers containing one. However, it’s still more likely that a Wordle doesn’t have one.
Wordle hints (game #1520) – clue #4 – ending letter
What letter does today’s Wordle end with?
• The last letter in today’s Wordle is Y.
Y is the second most common ending letter in the game, behind only E. In total, 364 Wordle answers end with a Y.
Wordle hints (game #1520) – clue #5 – last chance

Today’s Wordle answer (game #1520)

- NYT average score: 3.5
- My score: 3
- WordleBot’s score: 2
- My skill score: 92
- My luck score: 74
- My start word performance: DROSS (21 remaining answers)
- WordleBot’s start word performance: SLATE (6)
- Tomorrow’s start word: SHEEP
Today’s Wordle answer (game #1520) is… LOUSY.
The most notable thing about today’s game, for me at least, was that my start word, DROSS, meant pretty much the same thing as the answer. That’s an entirely irrelevant detail but one that amused me all the same.
It also proved to be a very helpful start word, leaving only 21 options. However, that figure was beaten comfortably by the total for WordleBot’s SLATE, which left only six. The ‘Bot duly scored a two, but I’m happy with my three after scoring a five with yesterday’s MATTE (see below).
LOUSY is a fairly easy Wordle, as its average score of 3.5 indicates. All five letters are common; U and Y are outside of the top 10, but only just (they’re 11th and 12th respectively) and the Y is very, very common at the end of a word.
I didn’t find all 21 of the possible answers available to me for my second guess, but I came up with 17 – so I didn’t do too badly. It wasn’t too hard a task, really, because that green S in the fourth position was only ever going to be followed by a handful of letters.
These were T (TOAST, BOAST, COAST, JOUST, JOIST, HOIST, FOIST, MOIST), Y (NOISY, LOUSY, MOUSY) and E (NOISE, POISE, MOUSE, HOUSE, LOUSE and COPSE).
The ones I missed were OBESE, POESY, NUTSO and QUESO, and only the first of those seems like a realistic answer. Nor did my failure to find them spoil my game, because I played UNITY next and got the green Y and yellow U that left only two answers: MOUSY and LOUSY.
I reckon my average on 50/50s is, well, about 50/50 – and today I guessed correctly to score a straightforward three.
Yesterday’s Wordle hints (game #1519)
In a different time zone where it’s still Saturday? Don’t worry – I can give you some clues for Wordle #1519, too.
- Wordle yesterday had vowels in two places.
* Note that by vowel we mean the five standard vowels (A, E, I, O, U), not Y (which is sometimes counted as a vowel too).
- The first letter in yesterday’s Wordle answer was M.
M is a middling letter when it comes to starting a word. It sits 10th in the rankings, with 107 occurrences in the 2,309 answers.
- There were repeated letters in yesterday’s Wordle.
Repeated letters are quite common in the game, with 748 of the 2,309 Wordle answers containing one. However, it’s still more likely that a Wordle doesn’t have one.
- The last letter in yesterday’s Wordle was E.
E is the most common letter to end a Wordle answer by far. That’s one of the reasons why many of the best start words, including SLATE, CRANE, CRATE and STARE, all end with one.

- Yesterday’s Wordle answer is not shiny.
Yesterday’s Wordle answer (game #1519)

- NYT average score: 4.0
- My score: 5
- WordleBot’s score: 3
- My skill score: 90
- My luck score: 42
- My start word performance: ERASE (55 remaining answers)
- WordleBot’s start word performance: SLATE (4)
- Tomorrow’s start word: DROSS
Yesterday’s Wordle answer (game #1519) was… MATTE.
It’s been a real rollercoaster week for me since Sunday’s MINTY: two fives, but also three threes and a two. Only one four in the middle of the range, though, pointing towards the chaotic nature of my play.
Or, maybe, it points towards the success – or lack of it – for my start words and my variable luck, because skill wise, I’ve been pretty consistent. In fact, I’ve been in the 90s for all but one of these seven games, and the only one where I ended up with a less-than-stellar 77 was KEFIR, the one where I scored the two! Go figure.
Anyway, MATTE was unfortunately the second of my two fives, and I can’t complain too much because it wasn’t my finest hour.
Admittedly, it’s not a particularly easy Wordle – though its rating of 4.0 implies that it’s slap bang in the middle, that figure will have been skewed a little by the result for SLATE, which left only four options.
It includes a repeated letter, the third in a row where we’ve had one of those (in fact, we had two in yesterday’s LEVEL). Plus, it’s also another answer that has been added by the New York Times rather than being plucked from the original list dreamed up by Josh Wardle and his partner. These additions really are coming in thick and fast now, and they always seem to be difficult.
My game started pretty well, with ERASE giving me a green E and yellow A, and cutting the possible answers list to 55. But although WordleBot said ALIGN was a “terrific” guess, it didn’t give me any more info beyond ruling out four letters and moving the yellow A.
I now had eight words left, according to the ‘Bot, but found only four of them: MAYBE, MAUVE, BATHE and TAUPE. I ruled out the latter, because I remembered it as a past Wordle answer, and went with MAYBE expecting to have a good chance of a win.
However, I’d missed four words – CACHE, HAUTE, PUPAE and, obviously, MATTE. So, when MAYBE was proven wrong but the M and A turned green, I assumed it had to be MAUVE – and went with that next.
Shock, horror! It wasn’t that either – which I should have known, because it was the solution to game #1261 in December. D’oh! So I had another look and realized my mistake, then played MATTE for a frustrating five.

What is Wordle?
If you’re on this page then you almost certainly know what Wordle is already, and indeed have probably been playing it for a while. And even if you’ve not been playing it, you must surely have heard of it by now, because it’s the viral word game phenomenon that took the world by storm in 2022 and is still going strong in 2025.
We’ve got a full guide to the game in our What is Wordle page, but if you just want a refresher then here are the basics.
What is Wordle?
Wordle challenges you to guess a new five-letter word each day. You get six guesses, with each one revealing a little more information. If one of the letters in your guess is in the answer and in the right place, it turns green. If it’s in the answer but in the wrong place, it turns yellow. And if it’s not in the answer at all it turns gray. Simple, eh?
It’s played online via the Wordle website or the New York Times’ Games app (iOS / Android), and is entirely free.
Crucially, the answer is the same for everyone each day, meaning that you’re competing against the rest of the world, rather than just against yourself or the game. The puzzle then resets each day at midnight in your local time, giving you a new challenge, and the chance to extend your streak.
What are the Wordle rules?
The rules of Wordle are pretty straightforward, but with a couple of curveballs thrown in for good measure.
1. Letters that are in the answer and in the right place turn green.
2. Letters that are in the answer but in the wrong place turn yellow.
3. Letters that are not in the answer turn gray.
4. Answers are never plural.
5. Letters can appear more than once. So if your guess includes two of one letter, they may both turn yellow, both turn green, or one could be yellow and the other green.
6. Each guess must be a valid word in Wordle’s dictionary. You can’t guess ABCDE, for instance.
7. You do not have to include correct letters in subsequent guesses unless you play on Hard mode.
8. You have six guesses to solve the Wordle.
9. You must complete the daily Wordle before midnight in your timezone.
10. All answers are drawn from Wordle’s list of 2,309 solutions. However…
11. Wordle will accept a wider pool of words as guesses – some 10,000 of them. For instance, you can guess a plural such as WORDS. It definitely won’t be right (see point 4 above), but Wordle will accept it as a guess.
12. The NYT has added in some of its own words, that weren’t in that list of 2,309 solutions. More will undoubtedly come over the next few years.
