Nigeria is working hard to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games. Officials from the National Sports Commission (NSC), the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), and the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) met in London to discuss this.

The NSC Chairman, Shehu Dikko, led the Nigerian team, which also included NSC Director-General Bukola Olapade, NOC President Habu Gumel, Vice-President Solomon Ogba, Secretary-General Tunde Popola, and other experts.

They talked with CGF leaders about Nigeria’s interest in hosting the Games, which was officially sent earlier this year. They also looked at the next steps in the bidding process.

The talks focused on Nigeria’s goals for hosting the Games and what will be needed for the final bid.

The NSC said they discussed important topics like the rules for candidate cities, how to communicate properly, the timetable for the process, and what the CGF expects.

The CGF has recently made changes to make the Games more affordable and easier to organise. Nigerian officials said the meeting was a chance to make sure Nigeria’s plans fit with these new rules.

The NSC also explained the progress Nigeria is making under President Bola Tinubu, where hosting big sports events is part of the country’s plan for economic and cultural growth.

“The NSC believes hosting the Commonwealth Games will bring great benefits to Nigeria,” the commission said. They added that the Games would help create wealth in sport, diplomacy, the economy, culture, and society.

Nigeria now needs to finish its final bid by August 31. The document will be sent after approval by the President.

The CGF will decide who will host the Games before the end of the year.
