Nigeria’s men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, finished their group stage campaign unbeaten at the Afrobasket 2025 after defeating Cameroon 101-92 in Luanda.
Already guaranteed a place in the quarter-finals, D’Tigers secured top spot in Group B with the win over a determined Cameroonian side.
The turning point came in the second quarter, when Nigeria outscored Cameroon 32-16 to take a 60-43 lead at half-time. By the end of the third quarter, D’Tigers had stretched the gap to 86-55 before Cameroon fought back late to reduce the margin.
Josh Okogie scored 16 points, while Caleb Agada (15), Stan Okoye (14), Ike Nwamu (12), Michael Mekowulu (12), and Stephen Igbanu (10) all made double figures.
It was Nigeria’s third straight victory, having earlier beaten Madagascar and defending champions Tunisia. The result means D’Tigers top Group B with a perfect 3-0 record and will face the third-placed team from Group A in the quarter-finals.
The clash also revived memories of the 2009 quarter-final in Libya, when Cameroon shocked Nigeria 84-80, but this time it was D’Tigers who came out on top.
