Victor Osimhen made his long-awaited second debut for Galatasaray as the Turkish champions eased to a 3-0 win over newly-promoted Fatih Karagümrük in the Süper Lig on Saturday.
The 26-year-old Nigerian striker, who joined from Napoli three weeks ago, had missed the opening-day victory at Gaziantep due to fitness concerns and had not played a competitive game since June.
Barış Alper Yılmaz, who scored twice in the season opener, put Galatasaray ahead in the 10th minute. The visitors were reduced to 10 men in the 23rd minute when Marius Doh was shown a red card after a VAR review.
Despite dominating, Galatasaray wasted several chances in the first half, with Mario Lemina and Leroy Sané missing opportunities to extend the lead.
Osimhen came on in the 61st minute to loud cheers from the home fans. He brought more urgency to the attack, registering two attempts, one of which tested the goalkeeper.
Galatasaray doubled their lead 13 minutes later when Karagümrük defender Fatih Kurucuk scored an own goal. In the 87th minute, Mauro Icardi, returning from a long injury layoff, sealed the win with a close-range finish from Lucas Torreira’s pass.
The victory keeps Galatasaray joint-top of the table after two games, with Osimhen expected to play a bigger role as he builds up his fitness.
