Akwa Ibom and Edo States have booked their places at the 9th National Youth Games in Delta State after qualifying from the South South elimination in female cricket.
The two teams were confirmed for the national finals as they were the only sides entered for the zonal elimination. What was supposed to be a test of supremacy was disrupted by heavy rainfall, which affected the match. The technical team later decided to reschedule the game for Sunday evening.
With the qualification, Team Akwa Ibom and Team Edo will now compete against other states of the country in Asaba, Delta State, when the Games begin from 29 August to 6 September 2025.
Meanwhile, attention on Sunday from 8am shifts to the male category, where four states namely Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Edo and Bayelsa will battle for the two available tickets to represent the South South at the National Youth Games.
All cricket matches, both male and female, will take place at the Community Secondary Commercial School, Itam.
