Industry leaders, including executives from major AI firms, recognize that these technologies can be harmful, especially for people in unstable or fragile states. For LeCun, preventing harm requires more than improving intelligence; it requires constraint systems that align actions with human goals and ethical boundaries. He remains optimistic that, if done right, AI could amplify human intelligence as profoundly as the printing press did in the Renaissance, a development he hopes will spark a new era of human creativity and progress.
